HOW TO MAKE YOUR HOUSE SMELL GOOD ALL THE TIME

How to Make Your House Smell Good All The Time

How to make your carpet smell good

Carpets are notorious for picking up and holding bad smells. You can easily eliminate your carpet odor by sprinkling baking soda onto your carpet before vacuuming.

After sprinkling the baking soda, let it sit for 30 minutes – 1 hour or more before vacuuming it up.

If you want to kick things up a notch, place a few drops of your favorite essential oil into your baking soda before sprinkling it on your carpet!

How to make your garbage disposal smell good

Love the smell of fresh lemons and hate the smell of a stinky garbage disposal? Throw a few sliced lemons into your sink and turn on the garbage disposal. Your garbage disposal and kitchen will smell lemony fresh.

Pro tip: Lemons are also a natural disinfectant and can help remove any food particles that may be stuck in your drain.

Williams Sonoma smell hack

I absolutely love the smell of Williams-Sonoma. Did you know that you can recreate the smell of the store at home?

Classic Williams Sonoma Smell Recipe:

  • 2 Sliced lemons
  • 1tbsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 Rosemary sprigs

Simmer these ingredients in a pot of water and you will make your house smell good FOR HOURS.

Rub vanilla extract on your light bulbs

Dip a Q-Tip into your vanilla extract and rub it over the top of your lightbulb. When you turn your lights on, the heat that is created will distribute the vanilla smell throughout your room.

How to make your trashcan smell good

The smell of a trashcan can really ruin the entire kitchen. Here are a few smell good hacks that will keep your trashcan smelling fresh longer:

  1. Sprinkle baking soda at the bottom of the trash can before you put your trash bag in to help absorb those unwanted odors.
  2. Use dryer sheets in the bottom of your trashcan

Bath and body works plugins

Bath and Body Works plugins are truly heaven sent! I think I sometimes like them even more than their candles.

All you have to do is plug your scent in and never have to think about it again. They typically last up to 30 days and will transform the scent of your house.

Here are a few of my favorite scents:

  • Pumpkin Apple
  • Champagne Toast
  • Laundry Day

Simmer pot

If you plan on relaxing at home all day, a simmer pot (or potpourri) will do just the trick and make your home smell amazing. Simmer pots are pots of homemade fragrances typically made out of items from your kitchen.

You can create different simmer pot recipes depending on your mood and you let them simmer on the stove throughout the day.

Dryer sheets

Dryer sheets are a great way to make your home smell good. One way you can use them is by putting them over your air conditioner.

You shouldn’t have to use any tape and it will stay put all day. If you love the smell of fresh laundry, you will love this home smell good hack.

Clip car fresheners to your home air vents

If you have a favorite car freshener that you use religiously, did you know you can bring that same scent inside your home?

Clip your car fresheners onto your home air vents to smell your favorite fragrance all day long.

Scented Candles

This one is a no brainer, but you can never go wrong with scented candles to make your home smell good. If you are a candle lover like me, here are some of my all-time favorite candles that I cannot live without:

  • Sensational: White Magnolia (Homegoods)
  • Bath and Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin
  • Lulu Candles From Amazon

Use really good smelling cleaning supplies

I love the smell of a fresh and clean home. The type of cleaning supplies that you can do wonders for the smell of your home. One brand that I love is Mrs. Meyers!

They have so many scents and they even come out with seasonal ones (think of it as a Bath and Body Works but for cleaning supplies). It can’t get any better than that!

Spray dry shampoo into stinky shoes

If stinky shoes are ruining the smell of your house, spraying some dry shampoo into them overnight will help eliminate those bad smells!

The dry shampoo will soak up all of the bad odors and will leave your shoes smelling fresh and new.

How to make your furniture smell good

Spraying linen spray on your furniture and fabric surfaces in your home will do wonders! You can spray as often as you like to keep everything smelling good.
