15 Moving Tips and Moving Hacks That Will Make Moving Out Easier
Use trash bags to pack hanging clothes
This is the number one moving hacks that I recommend doing when you are moving out of your home. It will literally save you SO. MUCH. TIME.
All you have to do when you move in is take the trash bag off of your clothes and just automatically hang them up in your closet. Then that area is done and you can come back and organize it later.
Label EVERYTHING
I made the mistake thinking I would remember what goes where whenever I moved for the first time. I’m telling you now, label EVERYTHING and ANYTHING no matter how small or insignificant it may be.
Moving day is already stressful enough. All you need to have to do is look at something and know exactly where to put it no thinking required.
Start collecting boxes early
About one month before you move, I would start saving any boxes that you can find.
Whether they are from package orders, or even boxes from friends and family, the more the merrier. You can even go to stores around your town to see if they have any boxes they aren’t using.
This will prevent you from having to go spend tons of money on boxes. Because trust me, it’s not worth it.
Use blankets and towels to protect breakables
To avoid having to splurge on expensive and unnecessary bubble wrap, wrap your breakable and fragile items with your blankets and towels.
Keep a moving/packing checklist
Like I said before, moving day is crazy and you need all the help you can get. Before the big day, make a list of everything that you need to get, pack, and remember. I put together a moving checklist that you can find below to help you out!
15 Moving Tips & Moving Hacks
Color Code boxes by room
For an easy Grab & Go whenever you’re moving and, I recommend labeling your boxes by color so you don’t have to search for Words. Vibrant colors such as blue, green, yellow, and red will work perfectly for this.
Make a “First Day” box
Before you even begin packing, make a box / bag of everything that you will need for the next two or three days after you move into your new place.
This will help you not to have to not search in Rumble through all of your boxes trying to find your essentials.
Stock up on moving supplies
Trust me the last thing you want to be doing is scrambling trying to find supplies for your big day.
Stock up on everything you will need beforehand or a smoother moving process. Here are some moving essentials that I recommend that you will probably need.
Pack in place
Packing in place is something that will help you to stay more organized during the packing process. By packing in, you basically will pack all of your items in a certain area in its place. You will then leave the boxes there until everything is ready to be moved.
This will help you to make sure nothing gets lost and forgotten as you’re packing and that everything is where it needs to be.
Declutter before you start packing
Before you even begin packing for your move, be sure to get rid of everything that you don’t use anymore and that you won’t be bringing with you.
Make sure you go through anything that you don’t want and sell it or give it to charity so you can start packing only what you need to take for your move.
Make use of your suitcases
For any loose items that you have, pack them in your suitcases first so you can save your boxes and you don’t have to use as many.
Pre clean your new home before you move in
Moving day is already stressful enough, you don’t want to add having to clean a dirty place on top of your things to do.
If you can, try going to your new home and do a deep clean before anything is moved in so you can be sure you are starting on a clean slate.
Have everything packed BEFORE moving day
Moving day should be centered around getting everything out of your house, not packing your things in boxes. By dedicating move in day to the sole purpose of moving, you will be able stay focused, be more organized, and have a Clear Vision of what your tasks are.
Having to pack plus move things out can cause confusion and extra stress that you definitely don’t need on this already extra stressful day.
Tape mirrors so they won’t break
If you aren moving large mirrors, place tape over the glass in an “X” like action to prevent them from shattering during your move.
The tape will absorb any shocks that the mirror might get in transit and will protect it.
Take photos of how things are set up
You would think it would be easy to remember how things are set up if you have looked at them for however long they’ve been in your house. But you’d be surprised how easy it is to forget how you set your decor up.
To make sure everything goes in the right place and in the right way, you want it to be sure to take photos of all of your home arrangements to make your move-in day easier.
