In the post I am going to show you how to effectively set goals for yourself.
Goal setting for yourself is not only what you should do, it can also be so much fun!
I love sitting down every month and writing out my goals.
Not only does it give me something to look forward to, it keeps me on track to accomplish what the Lord has called me to do.
If you are struggling with setting goals or accomplishing the goals, I am going to give 5 tips to show you exactly how to effectively set goals to get you started on your journey!
1. Break down your goals
It is important to always establish the small goals that will help you get to your big goals.
Doing this also makes your big goals not seem so big and unattainable.
You should establish:
- Daily goals
- Weekly goals
- Monthly goals
- Yearly goals
Setting all of these goals allows you to create a stepping stone to the overall life goals you have for yourself.
2. Set goals that actually motivate you
You will be more likely to accomplish your goals if you are setting goals that motivate you.
The path towards accomplishing your goals can be rocky at times.
Make sure to set goals that excite and encourage you to keep moving forward.
3. Schedule goals within a time frame
Learning how to effectively set goals is so much easier when you expect to accomplish within a certain time frame.
Without a time frame, a lack of a sense of urgency can occur.
By setting your goals within a time frame, you increase this sense of urgency and you are more motivated to accomplish the set goal.
4. Set inner goals
When you are goal setting and planning, it always fun to set outer goals, it is important to set goals for the inside as well.
Who do you want to be this year?
How do you want to feel this year?
What impact do you want to make?
5. Use SMART goals
Establish goals that are:
1. Specific
The more specific you are, the better when it comes to goal setting.
When creating your goals, consider the 5 W’s
- Who – Who is involved?
- What – What is it that I want to accomplish?
- When – When do I want to have this goal accomplished by?
- Where – Where do I have to be/go to accomplish this goal?
Why – Why do I want to accomplish this goal?
2. Measurable
Establishing goals that are measurable will help you be able to track the progress of your goals
Ask yourself how you will know when you have reached your goal and how you will know if you are making progress towards your goal.
3. Achievable
Now don’t get me wrong, I truly believe you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
However, setting a goal that is achievable means that you are easily able to set a specific course of action to accomplish that goal.
4. Realistic
Like I said before, I you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, however you should ask yourself these questions to consider whether or not your goal is realistic:
- Am I capable of accomplishing this goal at this point in my life?
- Do I have access to the resources needed to accomplish this goal?
5. Timely
Having a time bound goal that has a start date and deadline can actually increase your chances of accomplishing that goal
